Portraits of Toronto Street Cars Collection

Are Toronto’s streetcars not a beautiful and unique feature of our city? They are stately, historical, and controversial; there is no shortage of opinions among Torontonians. I enjoy our streetcars; I choose to present them in “portraits”.

Did you know…..

  • The Toronto streetcar system comprises eleven streetcar routes.
  • It is the largest such system in the Americas in terms of ridership, number of cars, and track length.
  • Much of the streetcar network dates back to the 19th century.
  • Despite the use of classic on-street tracks, Toronto’s streetcars are not heritage streetcars run for tourism or nostalgic purposes; they provide most of the downtown core’s surface transit.
